Papers, 1854?-1857?

This collection includes a folio manuscript entitled "Asia and America: an Historicial Disquistion Concerning the Ideas Which Former Geographers Had About the Geographical Relation and Connection of the Old and New World," and a list of maps written by Kohl during his stay in America, and was probably taken from what was meant to be a comprehensive work on the geographical history of the continent. It includes an account of all known voyages made to this continent from the time of Columbus to the landing of the "Mayflower," with copies of thirty-two original maps of the coast. The list of maps now in the Library of Congress includes maps of North America, South America, Northeastern Asia, Northwestern Europe, and many other locales.
